It's definitely a new take of Marathon music. Album got plenty of hip instead of the canon contemplative meditative mood. The songs work well for the game's theme.
As for the songs to stand on its own merit, I can pick a few songs with interesting composition notes.
---
"bubbles
burst.ogg" got notes that hints of a (slow mo) moment of fast frantic action.
"the good old
days.ogg" got a hint of Latin music, which is pretty good. I like the dull lead/square that loops from
1:28 ~ 2:06. Overall, the song is good. In fact, this might be my most favorite song of the album.
"the
rose.ogg" is like a beatnik rap/hip-hop kind of song. It's not as profound, but its subtle tune is perfect for the subtle emotional presentation.
"sunrise at
sunset.ogg" is good, but I can't put much details unless it's like something forboding/computery is coming/happening.
"tainted
source.ogg" is like a mellow jazz/blues song. It might be a little repetitive, but it's groundwork for rearrangment.
"
frogcrush.ogg" is obviously the most profound loud song. When things starts pumping and/or get down, but it's not as serious as bubbles
burst.ogg.
I haven't give the atmospheric ambience and others a try. I should have consider some time and effort to comprehend those notes. I listen and like Chipfusion's "Technocrates"/"Three thirds" songs, Scumfusion's "a Lossidian threnody" album, and Focus Minus's "Within the colors of space" album. That said, 6 picks out of 22 is just arbitrarily ignorant. I'm sure that the ambience and others can stand in its genre and even find a diverse audience.
